Handcrafted, scratch built and ready-made scale ship model of the Bremen Cog
Bremen cog is one of the many wooden ship models that been carefully handcrafted here at Premier Ship Models, with high level of attention to detail.
One of our scale wooden model ships, this is a flawless replica of Bremen cog wreck found in 1962 and contains the inclusive features of the original vessel. The flush-laid flat bottom and full lapstreak planking covering the sides are just a few of the wonderful characteristics.
Found in the Weser River, the Bremen Cog seems to have sunk during a storm flood from a shipyard before completion. Analysis of the oak and timber have dated the ship back to 1380. With a continual search for more of the ship fragments, over 2,000 individual pieces of the ship were found by 1965. The fragments were transferred to the German Maritime Museum for preservation.
After 19 year of reconstruction, the preservation was finished in 1999 and the ship is on display at Koggenhalle at the German Maritime Museum. The dimensions of the Bremen cog were 24 meters long, 8 meters in the beam and just over 4 meters high on the sides, producing an estimated load capacity of 130 tons.
