Stripes Model Yacht

The American Sail Foundation commissioned four 12-metre yachts. The aim was to win back the America’s Cup in the 1987 competition in Fremantle, Australia. These yachts were all named Stars & Stripes.

1. Stars & Stripes 83 (US 53), 1985 – by Geraghty Marine.
2. Stars & Stripes 85 (US 54), 1985 – by Robert E. Derektor Inc.
3. Stars & Stripes 86 (US 56), 1986 – by Robert E. Derektor Inc.
4. Stars & Stripes 87 (US 55), 1986 – by Robert E. Derektor Inc.

During Hurricane Irma in 2017, Stars & Stripes 87 suffered damage on Sint Maarten. Five 12-metre yachts were damaged and sunk. After winning the America’s Cup, the Stars & Stripes returned to port in San Diego, California, in 1988.

Making of the Stripes Model Yacht

All the materials used in the construction of this model are hand picked and prepared from selected hardwoods with polished metal fittings, with hand-sewn sails. All models are ready to be displayed and come with a wooden base and a brass nameplate. The creation of the Stars & Stripes model is the result of extensive research and careful planning. Each model is built by our experienced craftsmen using the traditional the plank-on-frame technique and requires several hundred hours of work. We also offer a selection of attractive display cases so that your model can be displayed in a dust-free environment.
