Besides handcrafted, scratch built ready-made ship models built by our own master artisans, Premier Ship Models also offers ready made model ships from other manufacturers including this model of Mary Rose from Gia Nhien. Gia Nhien is a Vietnam based producer of hand-crafted model boats and ships offering a wide selection of models from different categories.
The model ships from Gia Nhien are built from scratch by high quality craftsmen using the traditional technique of plank-on-frame construction. The Mary Rose ship model includes the wooden base with brass name and is ready to display. All the materials used in construction have been carefully selected and prepared, from the seasoned hard-woods to the polished metal fittings and hand-stitched leather upholstery.
The original Mary Rose ship was a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy. She served for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland and Brittany. She was being rebuilt many times after these wars and she saw her last action in 1545. She sank during the invasion on French galleys near the Isle of Wight. The wreck was rediscovered in 1971 and salvaged in 1982 by the Mary Rose Trust.
This expedition was one of the most expensive projects in the history of maritime archaeology. The value of the artefacts found in the wreck is of immeasurable value. The findings include weapons, sailing equipment, naval suppliers and many more objects. Mary Rose was one of the largest ships in the English navy throughout these wars and was one of the earliest examples of a purpose-built sailing warship.
