About the Karl & Marie
Built from the 18th century, the Karl & Marie is a typical example of a German freight boat used in the East Sea. This type of boat was officially known as Galeasses, though were unconnected with the Mediterranean Galeasses. The boats had a wide hull for cargo, meaning they weren’t particularly fast but were extremely stable.
