Zeven Provincien Waterline Ship: History
Formerly equipped with 80 guns, Zeven Provincien Waterline was a Dutch warship. It was also known by the name of De 7 Provinciën, which meant “The Seven Provinces”. This name was given in reference to the Dutch Republic having a federation of seven independent provinces in 17th century. During 1664-65, this ship was originally constructed to be used by the Admiralty of de Maeze. It was built by Salomon Jansz van den Tempel, a master ship builder.
Zeven Provincien as the flagship under the command of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter’s in the Second Anglo-Dutch War. Although being partially dismasted during the Four Day’s Fight, this ship efficiently participated and gave a good performance throughout the war.
