Handcrafted, scratch built and readymade Wasa Model Ship
The Wasa model ship has been beautifully handcrafted, and is one of our many Premier range scale models we have available here at Premier Ship Models.
Built for the Navy of Gustavus Adolphus, Wasa was scheduled to join the existing fleet on April 10, 1628. The crew began to pull the ship out of the harbour; Wasa had gone no further than 15 yards when a sudden gust of wind laid the ship on her beam-ends. Water rushed through the open gun ports and sank the ship within minutes; the death toll was estimated at 50, which included many women and children. Many parties were initially blamed including the Captain and the shipbuilder, but there was no conclusive evidence.
It would be 333 years before she was salvaged! Although various attempts were made, it wasn’t until 1956, where amateur archaeologist Anders Franzen successfully extracted a core sample from the hull, with additional efforts following to raise the ship. Wasa is one of the most popular attractions in Sweden since her recovery, and the centrepiece of the Statens Sjohistoriska Museum on the Stockholm waterfront.
Using the highest quality of materials with original drawings and plans our skilled artisans have brilliantly re-created this model ship to capture the Wasa in is true form. An outstanding addition to any room or office this ship model represents a moment in history, sure to provide a great conversational topic.
