HMS Bounty is a famous small merchant ship also known as HM Armed Vessel Bounty. She was purchased by the Royal Navy for purposes of carrying botanical plants. The ship was built in 1784 in Hull and was originally named Bethia and renamed to Bounty after the purchase by the Royal Navy. Her fame was gained for a botanical mission to Tahiti to acquire breadfruit plants and to transport them to West Indies.

After reaching Tahiti and collecting the plants, the crew decided to sail to West Indies after 5 months. More than 1,300 miles west of Tahiti, a mutiny broke out between two parties, each supporting different members of the crew. The mutiny ended by the departure of both of the parties from the ship. To prevent the ship’s detection, HMS Bounty was burnt. The wreck was discovered in 1957 and some remains are displayed in a museum in Fiji.
