The Goto Predestination was a 17th-century Dutch East India Company (VOC) ship, built in 1628 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The ship was named after the Greek word “predestination,” which means “fate” or “destiny.” The Goto Predestination was one of the largest and most impressive ships of her time, with a length of 42 meters, a width of 11 meters, and a depth of 5 meters. She was heavily armed with 48 guns and had a crew of around 330 sailors and soldiers.
The ship was commissioned to sail to the Dutch East Indies, where the VOC had established a thriving trade network. However, on her maiden voyage in 1628, the Goto Predestination encountered a catastrophic disaster. While leaving the port of Texel in the Netherlands, the ship listed heavily to one side and sank to the bottom of the sea, only a few hours after setting sail. The cause of the disaster is still unknown.
