Corel is a well known model ship kit manufacturer, established in Italy. Corel produces high quality wooden ship kits as well as quality fittings and materials for model ship builders. One of the most distinguished features of Corel kits is that the model kits do not consist of almost any plastic parts, only quality wooden material, metal decorations, most parts are made from brass or copper and all parts are carefully pre-cut with laser.
This Corel Berlin ship model kit has many unique features, for instance it is built using single plank-on-bulkhead construction, using extra thick 9mm poplar plywood for structural parts. Another feature is a detailed ornament on the model and all parts are precisely pre cut. Some of the detailed parts include figurehead, bowsprit, stern, transom decorations, cannon and many smaller pieces. The wooden parts of the kit are from beech and mahogany wood while the planking is walnut.
The Berlin ship was built in 1674 in Zealand as an order for Benjamin Raule, who was the organizer for the Brandenburg fleet for the Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg. The arsenal of this warship included 16 cannons and the number of crew members were usually between 70 and 100. She was commissioned to sail in the Mediterranean and the Baltic until 1681. Later, in 1688 she was captured by a Dutch fleet and was never seen again.
