About the America Yacht
The America Yacht certainly achieved a lot! Following a challenge from the Royal Yacht Squadron, this schooner called America entered the Hundred Guinea Cup race, a 53-mile race around the Isle of Wight. It easily defeated the 14 British ships and was awarded the Hundred Guinea Cup – Queen Victoria herself even visited the ship following the victory. Upon its return to America, it was renamed America’s Cup.
