RC Compatible
Kits and models designed to accept radio control equipment, supplied without the electronics. For builders who want to construct the boat themselves and then fit a motor, servo and radio gear of their own choosing.

Dorade Model Boat Kit – Amati

HE4 Police Boat Model Boat Kit – Krick
RC compatible means the model was designed with running in mind. The hull has the volume and access to take a battery and electronics, the framing allows for a motor mount and shaft, and the deck or superstructure can be removed or opened for maintenance.
Why this matters
Trying to convert a static display kit that was never intended to float is usually a poor use of time and money. There is no allowance for a shaft tube or rudder gland, no sealed access, and no hull volume for a battery. Starting from a kit built for conversion avoids all of it.
What you build, and what you buy separately
The kit supplies the hull, superstructure, deck fittings and plans. In almost all cases you supply the motor, propeller, shaft and coupling, speed controller, servo, receiver, transmitter and battery. The listing states exactly which.
Common subjects
Working tugs, trawlers, launches, fishing boats and sailing craft. They are popular conversions because they look right moving slowly, which is what an RC boat does most of the time. Conversion-ready hulls also appear in tug and trawler kits, fishing boat kits and passenger boat kits.
Build support
Clamps and building tools, plank bending tools, adhesives and sealants and finishing materials are stocked separately. Seal the hull properly before the first run, and test it in a bath or a bucket before the pond.
Common questions
Can I convert a model boat to RC?
If it was built for conversion, yes, and the kit will tell you. If it is a static display kit, it is nearly always easier and cheaper to start with an RC compatible kit than to modify a finished hull.
Which motor and battery should I use?
Follow the kit’s recommendation. Over-powering a scale hull makes it handle worse, not better, and shortens the running time.
Do I need to seal a wooden hull?
Yes, inside and out, before the boat goes near water. This is the step most often skipped and most often regretted.
