YANKEE HERO 1889 – Maine fishing sloop
To transport sardines to processing plants in Maine, the Yankee Hero was one of many seaworthy boats that could be fast and easily handled. The National Watercraft Collection in the Smithsonian has a model. A sloop is a sailboat having a single mast with a headsail in front of the mast and a mainsail behind the mast.
