The original name of La Nina, one of the three ships accompanying Christopher Columbus towards Indies in 1492, was Santa Clara which was probably changed to be similar to the name of the owner, Juan Nino. Nina is considered to be the favourite ship of Christopher Columbus and was captained by Vicente Yanez Pinzon, carrying a crew of 24 men on the day of its first departure.
During her long and successful history, she also became a flagship in the second voyage to Cuba, survived as the only ship in 1495 hurricane, and took part in a voyage to Rome and her last dated voyage is dated 1501 when she was heading towards Pearl Coast. There are several replicas of La Nina across the world, in Spain as well as USA.
