Daring Gunboat Kit – Disar (20130)

Description

A gunboat is a naval watercraft designed to carry one or more guns to bombard coastal targets.  During this period, a gunboat was a small undecked vessel carrying a single cannon in the bow.  The gunboat may have one or two masts or be powered by oars.  Some gunboats also mounted several swivel guns loaded with grape shot.

During the Great Siege of Gibraltar, the Spaniards appointed Brigadier Antonio Barcelo to the blockage fleet.  He designed gunboats that had 24-pound canons, located forward and placed on a swivel.  This allowed it to be aimed in any direction with the rowers in the middle.
