Any Other Types
Vessels that do not sit neatly in the usual categories, built to commission. This covers one-off subjects such as dredgers, submarines, paddle steamers, lifeboats, workboats, floating plant and the occasional aircraft or powerboat. If the subject is unusual, it belongs here.
Not every request is a yacht, a liner or a tall ship. Over the years we have built survey vessels, hovercraft, pilot boats, harbour plant, historic ferries and craft that survive only as a set of old drawings.
Can you build from photographs alone?
Usually, yes, and this is the section where that question comes up most. A spread of images covering bow, stern, beam and deck gives us most of what we need, and we can work up the rest from vessel type and dimensions. Where documentation is thin we agree what will be interpreted rather than guessed at, so there are no surprises when the model arrives.
Construction follows the subject
Lattice work, cranes, gantries and repeating deck fittings are usually 3D printed or photo etched, while hulls and superstructure are built in timber and finished by hand. Cutaway and open hull treatments show interiors where that matters. Waterline builds suit models going into a case; full hull models suit a cradle.
Scaling to your space
Tell us the maximum length, height and depth available and we will propose a scale that keeps the important detail visible without producing a model too large for the room.
Other options
Stock models of unusual subjects, lifeboats included, are in ready made models, and kits in other kits. To commission anything else, send us what you have.
Common questions
What if I only have one photograph?
Send it. We will tell you honestly what can be achieved from it before quoting, rather than after.
Do you build non marine subjects?
Occasionally, including aircraft and powerboats. Ask and we will say whether it is something we can take on.
