Handcrafted, scratch built and ready-made scale Perahu Boat Model
Here at Premier Ship Models we have a huge collection of scale models available, from our Standard, Superior, Premier and Custom ranges. Our Perahu wooden boat model has been fully handcrafted with close attention to detail. Initially built for a corporate client, the Perahu model boat is now on display in the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
Going into the 20th century, the Perahu was world renowned as one of the fastest sailing boats that existed. This pushed many western builders, including R.M. Munroe and Robert Barnwell Roosevelt to adopt the design of the Perahu, with its design still providing a basis for many speed sailing boats today. A true representation of the traditional Micronesian vessel, Perahu derives its name from the Malay language of the word ‘boat’ which is usually a generic term to describe any vessel smaller than a ship.
Most commonly found around various islands of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, the Perahu boats contain characteristics of two usually unequal parallel hulls. The main hull is usually longer than the windward hull and both hulls are usually curved in such a way to produce lift to counteract the lateral forces of the wind. Another main feature of the Perahu boats is that the vessel shunts when changing tracks, allowing the stern to become a bow and viva versa.
Built using high quality materials, our Perahu wooden model boat has been designed to include features of the original vessel to incorporate its rich history. Making a wonderful centre piece, the Perahu boat model would add character and charisma to any room or office.
Premier Ship Models is fully committed to providing our clients with the highest quality and most competitive pricing in the industry. This is an ultimate chance to add one of our most popular model sailing boats to your own private collection.

|Title: SUPPLY of 5 HISTORIC SHIP MODELS FOR HONG KONG's MARITIME MUSEUM|
| Text: This letter is to serve as notice of my Company's appreciation of the work carried out by Premier Ship Models Ltd regarding the design, construction and delivery of five model ships for a project Rich Creation International Ltd has to fit out the currently 'in-progress' installation of Hong Kong's first full Maritime Museum. We first commissioned Premier Ship Models in early 2004 for a very urgent delivery on custom making model ships of the Batavia and San Felipe Galleons. This then increased to additional orders of a further two model ships of the Borobodur and Perahu vessels and lastly, late in 2004, a Singalese model sailing boat. The entire project continued to undergo many design changes and even resulted in the change of size/scale of the Batavia. All accommodated without problem by Premier Ship Models. They worked very professionally and did significant research on the later commissioned model ships as our client had little information. Constant delays and our clients change of mind on needs, finishes, ageing of the ship models etc added complexities to already difficult tasks, but in the end we received on time excellent ship models, highly detailed and fine finishing. The shipping and packing was excellent, and all 5 model ships received after a near 3 week journey by sea were without damage. We found Rashid and his staffs service to be very helpful, timely and professional in every respect. We will and hope to use them again on other projects and further commissions for this Museum as it expands and creates new displays. The general quality, service and reliabilty has proved its worth in using them over less expensive options, but in saying that we still find them to be highly competitive and value for money. We would recommend them to any other prospective client for the provision of high quality Maritime model ships. |
