The essential tools for model building
Published on 04/25/2016
Quite often we get questions from customers buying their first model boat kit about what they will need to complete the build. Generally, some people are not sure whether the model kit contains everything required to finish. That is one reason we began offering tool-building kits alongside our range of model ship kits.
For a limited time only, we are happy to be giving away our 15-piece tool kit, which has almost everything required to finish a model kit. All you need to do is choose your model boat kit from our range and the 15-piece tool kit will automatically be added to your shopping cart free of charge!
Below is more information about what the tool kit contains and how it can be used for building.
The grip clamps help hold two pieces together that you have recently applied glue to. This will ensure that the two pieces stay in place. There are 3 grip clamps in this tool kit, two measuring at 2 inches and the other at 3 inches.
The kit includes 5 No.11 blades as spares; they are surprisingly easy to lose! They can also replace a blunt blade.
The side cutter has a blade on only one side, which means you can cut pieces from one side without affecting the other. This essentially gives you more control and prevents damage to pieces of the model ship kit.
The flat file is used to create a good quality finish on the smaller details of the model, once they have been attached, for example on the deck. It will help to improve the overall appearance of the completed model.
The bent nose tweezers have a bent jaw, which means you can keep your wrist comfortably straight while working on uneven details. Having such a bent nose will also allow the pliers to get to more difficult small areas easier than straight pliers would.
