Lee steamboat model from Amati, an Italy based manufacturer which have been producing the highest quality wooden model boat kits for over 60 years. Amati´s main objective when manufacturing their kits is to focus on accuracy, which Amati considers to be a major requisite in miniatures reproduction.

This Amati miniature steamboat model of Robert E. Lee is a great replica of the original paddle steamer built in 1866. The kit includes solid wooden hull, machine turned smokestacks, photo-etched brass stanchions and decorations, white metal windows, doors, paddlewheels, wooden planking for deck and cabin, metal accessories and many more detailed parts. The kit comes with complete fittings and English instructions. If you don´t want or are unable to build the kit by yourself, Premier Ship Models can assemble it for you and despatch it as a ready made model.

The Robert E. Lee steamboat also carried a nickname, Monarch of Mississippi, and was built in 1866 in New Albany, Indiana. The total cost of the steamboat, which was designed by DeWitt Hill, was $200,000. The name of the ship is derived from the name of Robert E. Lee, General-in-Chief of the Confederate States of America.

The steamboat gained its biggest fame by winning a famous steamboat race against the Natchez on the route from St. Louis to New Orleans. Robert E. Lee finished the race in 3 days, 18 hours and 14 minutes while Natchez more than 2 hours later. The main purpose of this steamboat was to sail between New Orleans and Natchez, Mississippi. Robert E. Lee´s existence ended in September of 1870, when the ship caught fire and eventually killed 21 people.
